Snakes, Turtles and Crocodiles

Snakes, Turtles and Crocodiles- Photographer - Neville Coleman

Overview

Comparatively few reptiles occur in the marine environment. Those that have adapted are turtles, tortoises, crocodiles and sea snakes. Reptiles are air breathers and require internal lungs to respire. They are unable to regulate their own body temperature and rely on the external environment to maintain a suitable temperature. Marine turtles are mainly found in tropical waters and nest on land. Sea snakes are completely marine animals, staying at sea to bear live young.
