SEA WORLD RESCUES QUEENSLAND GROPER!
A Queensland Groper was rescued last week by the Sea World’s Research and Rescue Team. A hook and trace were successfully removed from the animal, but it is suspected there may be another lodged in the animal’s gut wall. The animal is currently being housed in Shark Bays’ Quarantine Pools. Currently there are no Queensland Gropers on exhibit in Shark Bay.
INTERESTING FACT: Growing to at least 3 metres in length and 500 kilograms in weight, the Queensland Groper is one of the world’s largest bony fish and is the largest on the reef. They are believed to live in excess of 100 years.
